Everything you need to know before getting behind the wheel in Alcudia
Driving in Alcudia and around Mallorca follows Spanish traffic law. Traffic drives on the right. Roads in northern Mallorca are generally well-maintained, though mountain roads near Cap des Pinar and the Formentor Peninsula can be narrow with sharp bends. Always carry your driving licence, ID, booking voucher and rental agreement in the vehicle at all times.
In Port d'Alcudia and around the medieval old town walls, parking operates on a blue zone paid system during summer months. Meters and signs clearly indicate the zones and rates. Paid parking applies near the beach, the port marina and the main tourist areas. Both coins and cards are accepted at most meters.
Free parking is available in residential streets away from the seafront and in car parks on the outskirts of town. Avoid parking on yellow lines or blocking driveways. During peak July and August season, arrive early to find parking near the beach as spaces fill up quickly.
Several petrol stations are located on the main Ma-12 road from Palma to Alcudia and in the Port d'Alcudia area. Major brands including Repsol, BP and Cepsa are represented. Fuel types available include unleaded petrol (95 and 98 octane), diesel and LPG at selected stations. Most stations have self-service pumps operating 24 hours and accept both cash and card payment.
Always fill up the tank before returning your rental car to avoid refuelling surcharges from the rental company. If venturing to remote areas around Cap des Pinar or the Formentor Peninsula, fill up in Alcudia or Port de Pollenca beforehand as petrol stations are very sparse on those scenic routes.
